Art Expectations 371 Country Joe

371 GreatExp Country Joe 150

I created this quick sketch on six pages from the book glued onto cardboard scraps. (At this point, they are ALL quick sketches!) I used my 30 year old Derwent colored pencils along with my very new Pan Pastels. Playing around some more with those. I really should watch a video on how to use them!

{Day 371 Page 397}  Joe is still nursing Pip to health. He tells Pip he caught the laundress stealing feathers from the feather beds. She was also stealing wine and coal. She was sneaking the wine out in Pip’s Wellington boots! So Joe fired her and hired another lady to help with the household chores. So far so good. Pip feels like a child again, with Joe taking charge. Joe helps him with the abundance “of the wealth of his great nature.” Once Pip is finally healthy enough, they go out for a drive to the country for some fresh air. Pip observes the world as if through a child’s eyes. There is rich summer growth on the trees and grass. Sweet summer scents fill the air. Pip feels not thankful enough. He was in a very bad place and now things are starting to look up with Joe’s help. In the carriage, he lays his head on Joe’s shoulder. They go to the old Battery, lie in the grass and talk like they used to when Pip was a young boy.
